Communication Research Centre (CRC) was established in late 2002 as a special unit within the Department of Communication at the University of Helsinki. The main tasks of CRC are to promote high academic standards in all areas of research and to bring support to the basic research activities of the Department. CRC offers private and public sector organisations research and training services based on academic knowledge and critical research. The areas of expertise of the Department of Communication are:

  • Journalism and Mass Communication
  • Organisational Communication
  • Communication and Training through Internet
  • Multicultural Communication.

CRC also actively develops original research projects in different fields of communication. For this purpose, CRC applies for research funding from EU, the Academy of Finland and other international and domestic sources. CRC is also interested in joining international and domestic EU and other projects as a partner.

CRC recruits its researchers mostly from inside the Department of Communication who has 25 academic staff members (professors, lecturers and researchers). If needed, outside experts can be recruited.
