Robert A. Beauregard is a Professor of Urban Planning. He writes on urban theory (with an emphasis on urban redevelopment) and planning theory paying particular attention to post-war urbanization in the United States and the fate of older, industrial cities. His work in this regard focuses on empirical trajectories as well as issues of representation. Among other publications are his most recent When America Became Suburban (2006), Voices of Decline: The Postwar Fate of US Cities (2003ed.), and the co-edited The Urban Moment: Cosmopolitan Essays on the Late Twentieth Century City (1999).
