Journal of Classical Sociology: Prizes for academics and graduate and post graduate students, 2005

Journal of Classical Sociology is delighted to announce two SAGE prizes for articles submitted to the editors. In 2005 there will be two awards for prize essays from tenured academics and from graduate and post graduate students. Each prize is worth £150 SAGE books and successful award articles will be published in the journal.

Journal of Classical Sociology is an essential new resource that focuses on international contributions to the classical tradition. The journal promotes discussion and analysis of the classical tradition of sociology from Comte to Parsons, but the journal is equally committed to the promotion of ‘classicality’ that is the contemporary legacy of classical sociology. In promoting classicality, the journal has published articles on Goffman and Levinas, Bourdieu and French sociology, Simmel and masculinity, W.B.Gallie and essentially contested concepts, Marcuse and psychoanalysis, Luhmann and double contingency, the sociology of Philip Rieff, and Galbraith’s economic sociology.

Papers must be written in English, in the journal’s house style and must not exceed 8000 words. The deadline for submission of essays for the 2005 award is 31 December 2004. Entrants must submit manuscripts as an attachment to an email to the Assistant Editor, Simon Susen, Cambridge University, at: ss412@cam.ac.uk.
