Courses in English, Autumn Term 2004
Dates: 14.09. – 23.11. Course Description: The course aims to introduce students to the problematic of agency and, especially, of communication in a technically mediated society. The course focuses on such themes as citizenship in-between the local and global, communities, identities, social differences, multicultural spheres and Finnish policies on the information society. The course offers integrated English Language studies. Students will be guided in giving presentations in English, reading academic texts and gaining skills in academic writing. It will be possible for degree students to have the course registered in two components: 3 credits as course proper and 2 credits registered as English Oral Skills/Englannin suullinen taito). Prior registration required! The course is meant primarily for students of department of communication, both exchange and Finnish degree students. 20 students will be taken to the course (15 exchange students, 5 degree students), therefore registration is required. The registration starts on 02.09.2004. Please send an e-mail to yonca.ermutlu@helsinki.fi by September 9 th 2004. In your e-mail, please write your name, surname, student number, and your major subject of study in university of Helsinki, your e-mail, your phone number, and the name and department of your original university. The list of accepted students will be on the announcement board in the corridor of the department of communication on September 10 th.
