Advanced Level Studies Identity, Ethnicity and Media. A Theoretical Perspective,, 5 study points, Course Code: 770059 Dates : 28.11.-2.12.2005 ! This course can be registered for degree students under the study unit 9 g, Intercultural Communication or as study unit 14. Course Description: This course is intended for master and post-graduate students. The course will provide an interdisciplinary exploration of the interface of identity, ethnicity, and the media. Starting from an exploration of contemporary conceptions of ethnicity, the discussion will move to open up the relationships between the state framing of multicultural policies and the construction of the media environment for majority and minority populations. This will include an examination of the (mis)fit between the politics of identity operating in a specific state and the political economy of media production. Course participants will be expected to contribute through individual and group work to the course content. Prior registration required! Prior registration is required for other students than regular students of the Department of Communication and the Swedish School of Social Science. Also for these students prior registration is strongly recommended. Registration will close on 8 November. Prior registration includes submitting a one page synopsis of their current research/study.
