This course can be registered for degree students under the study unit 9f or S14. This course explores racist and anti-racist discourses disseminated in various publications and sites in the Internet. The lectures will examine discourses of racism, anti-racism, multiculturalism, ethnicity and identity. Theoretical and methodological tools for critical qualitative text analysis are presented. The course includes lectures and discussion sessions in small groups. The students will write a six page essay in which they analyse an empirical case of their choice. It can be for instance a racist site, anti-racist campaign, diasporic electronic media, internet discussion list or a blog. The structure and focus of the essay will be discussed in the group.
