Call for Papers

 International Conference on

"University Students in the 19th-21st Century "

organized by "Education and Society" Doctoral School of University of Pécs jointly with  Education Sociology Section of Hungarian Sociological Association. and jointly with the Research Network Sociology of Education of the European Sociological Association

Date and Venue: 23rd May 2006, University of Pécs, Ifjuság u 6, Hungary

Deadline for submission: 30rd April 2006

Language of the conference: English and Hungarian

 Presentations will be published in an e-book.

 Resumes of English language presentations will previously available for participants before the conference.

 Formal requirements:

 Those wishing to give their presentation in Hungarian are obliged to submit the resume of their presentation in English preliminary.

Titles of cross-tables, graphs etc. and titles of chapters should be in English (or Hungarian and English). 10rd May 2006

 Conference fee: 20 EUR, payable at 23rd May 2006, University of Pécs.

You can apply for a maximum 20 EUR scholarship to cover your expenses.

  The cost of publication is subject to length of presentation and includes the cost-price of digital editing.

 Expectable sections of the Conference:

1.      Social background of university students, pre-university educational schemes and university study achievements in Western-Europe and North America in the long 19th century

2.      Social background of university students, pre-university educational schemes and university study achievements in Austro-Hungarian Monarchy in the long 19th century

3.      Social background of university students, pre-university educational schemes and university study achievements in Western-Europe and North America in the 20th-21st century

4.      Social background of university students, pre-university educational schemes and university study achievements in the 20th-21st century Central-Europe (succession states of the Monarchy, Poland and Baltic states)

5.      Social background of university students, pre-university educational schemes and university study achievements in East-Europe in the 19th and 20th century (succession states of the Turkish–Ottoman Empire, Russia, Soviet Union  and post-Soviet states)

Remark: Pécs, Europe's Cultural Capital for 2010 lying in South Hungary can easily be reached by train starting at 6.40 from Budapest. List of recommended hotel in Budapest and Pécs is available from organizers upon request.


General information on the Research Network

The Sociology of Education research network organized several sessions at the Helsinki-conference. The aim was to provide a forum for diverse educational research, ranging from broad comparative research to everyday practices and processes in school and in further and higher education. The kinds of themes which have emerged in earlier conference sessions on this topic are:
Education and transition in Europe; Social Justice and Democracy in Education; Making the Difference, Bridging the Difference; From Educational Attainment to Family Relations, but we welcome further suggestions.
