General information about the Research Network

Internationalisation and European integration as well as national reorganisation has to a great extent changed the conditions for professions and professional work. Thus, there is vital interest for a research network in the sociology of professions on a European scale.

Major aims of the network are

·         to provide a European forum for the development, discussion and dissemination of research in the sociology of professions,

·         to ensure an institutional context for workshops at future ESA conferences and for meetings between ESA conferences,

·         to encourage and organise international research projects.

The network has emerged from, and is connected to the Research Committee 52 in the International Sociological Association. An inaugural meeting was held at the fourth ESA conference, August 1999. The first meeting between the biannual ESA meetings took place in Jesi, Italy 4-6th May 2000 on reliability of professions. For further information on the following meetings and activities, please find below the reports and the newsletter that is distributed electronically twice a year.

An election of coordinators and an Executive Board was hold during the 4th Interim Meeting in March 2006.
