Qualitative Methods

CALL FOR PAPERS

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Feb. 28, 2007.

Using Qualitative Research: The Relevance and Applicability of 'Micro' Methods

Given the important structural themes to be discussed in the Glasgow Conference, the Qualitative Research Network calls for papers which show how qualitative methodologies can be relevant to the changing societies in which we live.

Inter alia this may include:

·        micro methods which can be used to address policy issues

·        fruitful ways of combining qualitative and quantitative methods

·        qualitative research designs developed in conjunction with particular social groups, managements or governments

·        theoretical and methodological papers that address the micro/macro polarity and the place of social context in qualitative research

Please note that we specifically are NOT looking for simple research reports but are calling for papers that focus on methods, methodologies and practices with a relevance to all qualitative researchers.

·        Abstracts will  be accepted through completion of the online submission www.esa8thconference.com

In order to facilitate an appropriate choice of network, the online submission form has a drop down box that contains the titles of all the networks that will run in Glasgow. When the submit button on the online abstract submission form is activated abstracts will be submitted simultaneously to the Conference Organiser based in Glasgow and  to the Qualitative Methods RN coordinator. Decisions on acceptance of abstracts by RN coordinators will be given by 15th April 2007.

The Qualitative Methods RN is organising seven sessions at the Glasgow conference (following a highly successful mid-term in Cardiff University in Sept. 2006). In addition, at Glasgow,  RN Board Member David Silverman will give a semi-plenary at the conference entitled: 'Putting society together: What qualitative research can and cannot say about identities and social institutions'.
