Selection Criteria

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences makes the decisions concerning the applications based on an evaluation and proposition done by the Board of the Department.

The following criteria will play the most crucial role in the selection:

  • contents of the previous studies in relevant fields, i.e. how well they enable the applicant to study in the programme/field in question.
  • grades of the previous studies in relevant fields related to the programme/field in question.
  • applicant's motivation for the programme/field s/he applies for.
  • general quality and level of the applicant's degree and studies included in it.
  • success and comprehensiveness of previous studies.
  • when studies have been taken

In addition to the studies, other academic merits may be taken into consideration provided that they have not been earned more than ten years ago.

Special attention will be paid to how well the content of previous studies correspond with the studies offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Even though the applicant's previous studies must be such that they enable the student to continue his/her studies towards a Master's degree, in some cases, however, the students might be requested to complete some supplementary studies.

In acceptance to a Master´s degree programme or Studies leading to Master´s Degree - option, the study right is granted for the Master's degree (M.Soc.Sc.). Therefore, the student does not have the right to take a lower degree (Bachelor's degree) at the Faculty.

If the applicant has not completed large amount of the courses in the field s/he applies for, s/he can not be accepted. Minor subjects will also be taken into consideration, and they have to support the major subject.

Notification of Results

The results will be available here in mid-April. Letters or e-mail messages regarding the results will be sent to all applicants at the beginning of May 2010 at the latest.

Those applicants who are not satisfied with the results of the procedure have the right to file in a written rectification appeal to the Dean of the Faculty. The rectification appeal has to be submitted in writing by 17 May 2010. The appeal must include cogent and concrete evidence on a mistake made in the processing of the student’s application file. Applications that have not been attached with the requested enclosures are automatically rejected and do not justify an appeal.
