404. Advanced development studies

The first session will be held on Friday 11.9. 10-12 at T23 A217 (Teollisuuskatu 23A) together with Ph.D. Seminar.

Objectives

This is a new course compulsory for all new doctoral students and strongly recommended for those who have recently started their doctoral studies. It will give the students an in-depth view of a number of theoretical and methodological approaches currently employed in development studies and help them to find their own approach.

Content

The course goes into the basic issues of development discourse and development studies at a more advanced level, covering both mainstream and more critical approaches to development studies. The course consists of short introductory lessons and reading and writing assignments for the participants.
