The first half aims to develop (through peer support) active reading and understanding of the chapter’s key concepts and arguments. This prepares the circle for fuller discussion of the chapter based on the respective essay title. The net effect of the seminar structure is to ensure the student has read the chapter, actively engaged with it and provide stimulus for essay title selection and submission.
Prestationssätt
After an introductory seminar by the supervisor the students will all pre-read the relevant chapter for the coming week’s seminar. The supervisor will facilitate peer group exploration of the chapter’s key concepts and arguments and students will take it in turns to briefly introduce an essay title based chapter discussion. There will be no lectures. The 11 chapters will be covered in three stages over the 15 week period, reflecting parts 1, 3 and 4 of the book. Three essays based on each stage will be set for periodic submission once the relevant chapters have been covered. The final seminar will include student feedback.Attendance of all chapter based seminars and submission of satisfactory essay for each part will amount to 1 credit, making three credits in total for all parts completed.
