Objectives

The study unit aims to teach the principles and practices of scientific research, how to prepare a research plan and write an academic text, as well as to develop the students' argumentation and discussion skills.

Content

Bachelor's Thesis Seminar (7 credits) consists of:
  • Y320. General Part (4 credits) and
  • P330./H330./M330. Subprogramme-Specific Part (3 credits)

Mode of assessment

The study unit is divided into two parts: the first, general part (4 credits) is an introduction to the methodology of political science and to academic writing, while the second, subprogramme-specific part (3 credits) is a research seminar. These are completed in successive periods. Students write their research plans during the first part and continue to prepare their Bachelor's Thesis during the research seminar on the basis of their plans. The research seminar includes the preparation of a seminar paper, which is also the preliminary version of the Bachelor's Thesis. Based on the comments received on the research paper, the student prepares his/her thesis at the latest during the period following the seminar and hands it in to the teacher responsible for the seminar.

Timing

If student fails to complete the subprogramme-specific part she needs to take the general part anew.

Target group/Course level

Only for Political Science major students. The Bachelor's Thesis Seminar is not available to minor subject students.
