Applied Quantitative Methods

- Prior registration for the course in WebOodi between 31.12.2009-11.01.2010. Only for Helsinki University Political Science major students. Exchange and visiting students can't attend the course.

The students should be master level students who have completed these courses at the Bachelor level: basic statistics, introduction to SPSS and Introduction to Quantitative Methods.Compensations

The course is restricted to Helsinki University political science students who have political science as their major subject. The course is taught in English but is open to all Helsinki University political science students at the masters level.Objectives

Content
The course focus on OLS and logistic regression. In addition ANOVA analysis is introduced briefly.Completion
A term paper which includes an analysis of survey data distributed by FSD. The deadline for the draft version of the term paper is 15 March and the deadline for the final version of the term paper is 31 March.Grading
The course work will be graded on a scale from 0 to 5. To pass the course the student is expected to participate in at least 75% of all teaching hours.Course results and retake
The results of the course will be posted on the notice board of the Department.If the course work is not accepted or if the student wishes to raise his/her grade, he/she should contact the teacher within one month after the publication of the results and discuss arrangements for rewriting course work.
Course evaluation anddevelopment
During the last session, students will have an opportunity to give feedback on the course to the lecturer and to fill in an anonymous evaluation form. During the course feedback can be given anonymously.When giving feedback, please evaluate the contribution of the teacher, your own contribution, the contributions of other students and the possible contribution of the Department office to the success of the course.
