The International History Seminar (Political history, University of Helsinki) is a forum for the study and discussion of international history and the history of international relations.

The program consists mainly of guest lectures and presentations given by the staff and researchers of Helsinki university. In addition to academics we welcome talks by practitioners, analysts and journalists.

Monday 21 September Dr Jovo Bakic (University of Belgrade): 'Yugoslavism between Serbian and Croatian nationalism'.

Monday 5 October Suvi Kansikas (Researcher, HU), 'National interests vs. bloc unity. The USSR, the CMEA and the EEC 1969-1975'.

Monday, 12 October Dr Thomas Fischer (Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva): 'Sovereignty vs. Human Rights: East, West, Neutrals and the Struggle for Basket III in the CSCE Negotiations 1972-1975'.

The seminar is aimed at anyone with an interest in the history of international relations and it is open to all. Scholars and experts form other universities and research institutes are particularly welcome.

Students of Helsinki University may attend the seminar and include it in their syllabus. Further information for students here

The seminar's working language is English, although some sessions may be held in Finnish, subject to demand.
